More Than A Ring
The Bag Is Secure
Well done!
You’ve navigated the minefield that is “ring shopping”, and landed with a beautiful rock and a beautiful band for your bride to be. But before you sit back and relax, remember - any Joe with a credit line can purchase a ring. The real challenge (and the real reward) lies in planning the perfect proposal experience, of which your stone is the centerpiece.
Don’t worry - we’re here to help.
Owning the Experience
“Will you marry me?” is one of the significant questions you may ever ask, and it’s worth the time thinking through exactly how you want the experience to play out for you both. Whether you prefer to include your loved ones into this moment or keep it humble and intimate - keep reading for tips on executing well.
1. Scope out your proposal location in advance
Many people (brides and grooms alike) have ideas of where they would like their proposal to happen.
On Navy Pier, lit up by fireworks. 🎇
At your first date location, glowing with candles. 🕯️
On top of a (dormant) volcano, adrenaline pumping. 🌋
Whatever your preference, don’t assume your space is available. With moments like these, what can go wrong typically will go wrong - without proper planning. Take the time to call ahead, run a scouting party with your future best man, call ahead for that permit or private deck - you’ll thank us later (when you don’t have teenagers doing TikTok dances in the background of your proposal pictures).
2. Book your photographer ASAP
This moment is one that you grandchildren will be asking you to retell (whether you like the attention or not). It seems like a good idea to have your cousin take some quick iPhone Pro shots, but you’ll likely regret it when you realize bhaiya auto-focused on your ears, not your ring. Hiring a professional photographer, like All-In Productions, to capture this moment is an investment in your posterity. Unlike that last-minute wedding card from Walgreens, you can’t pick up a quality photographer the day before your proposal - we’ll be booked up! Make contact with us at info@allinpro.org or through the form in the top right corner as soon as you’re ready to book a professional experience partner.
3. Have a plan to include family and friends
After you secure a “yes” and treasure the start of your road towards covenant, you’ll want to include all the other people in your life you love. Whether you want them around the corner, or setting up a surprise party back at home - take time to plan out how all your loved ones can be involved. Remember, you’re not a wedding planner island - your parents, friends and family who have been through this want to support you. Ask your friend to pick up drinks. Assign your cousin to direct parking. Accept their love through service and ensure that you both can focus on receiving it when it counts.
4. Establish time for portraits (if you want them)
When you hire us to photograph your proposal, we will be onsite at your desired location 30-60 minutes in advance, and will stay as long as you want us. We’d love to capture some intimate, pre-engagement-session photographs while your faces are still flush with surprise and joy. As you plan out your proposal day, budget time to allow us to beautifully pose and capture your moment. Remember, hundreds of iPhones and IG stories will be looping your entrance to the party later - allow us to exclusively capture your story before you let the whole village in on it.
5. Understand her preference on surprises
This hopefully goes without say, but don’t make an assumption on what your partner wants. Some brides love a complete surprise, and being proposed to in sweatpants with a bun. Others prefer having their nails done, hair done, and shoes picked. Take the time to understand what exactly she wants to make sure you can plan accordingly to deliver an unforgettable moment (we prefer to capture "joyful” surprise, not “petrified” surprise).
